A blog gone sour.

daphne's departure!

and another one bites the dust!! well, im probably saying that because an unimaginable amount of envy is welling up inside me as i type this. so that's fran and daphne now, and not long till cynthia joins the fray. i know i've bitched about this hundreds of times, but i still can't get over the fact that we started this whole long, arduous task of applying to the states together, just the 3 of us with great, great dreams in mind and fat padded wallets to achieve this end (just fran, i guess). and it was a great journey because we(and by we i mean me, again) got to know each other so much better and the idea of being in a group of likeminded individuals just made everything that much more exciting. i remember the dreaded SATS, the essay workshops and college visits etc etc. we all got accepted into wherever it was we wanted to go eventually, fran in columbia, cynthia in UPenn and me in NUS (har har har!), but it looks like im the only one who never completed the journey that we started together. well, until i get over that nasty fact i'll just curl up in a dark, dangy corner of my room and curse myself. in the meantime, i've decided to save up my monthly allowance so that at the end of my first year of medical studies i'll have enough moolah to dig into to go visit them. anyone interested?

well here are some of the photos we took at the airport last night. i really like the presents we got her(and i've got geri to thank for that) because the blatant but really beautiful (oooooooooh stars!!! haha) girlishness of the card kinda offset the professional but boring feel of the camera stand. which reminds me, i ought to upload the step-by-step photos of how fran's puppet came to be!

She arched her back and looked into the sky, concealing the tears that welled up in her eyes and hoping they wouldn't be too noticeable to her friends, though it was obvious she only meant to hide it from one person.

"Why are you crying?", he asked, even as the answer was obvious to him. It killed him to have to ask, it killed him to even have to pretend. With the greatest amount of agony in his heart he walked over from across the table and held her in his arms.

"You don't know?", she managed weakly, before leaning over and tilting her head to fit her lips perfectly with his. It was a kiss that was too little, too late, but just enough to convey what each had wanted the other to know for an eternity, and at that moment all that was needed to last a lifetime.

And then he woke up, no longer the man he was in the dream, but the boy who only had regret in his heart.

just something that found its way into my head after i told daphne that she struck me as the erotic/historical romance novelist type. hey, but i've honestly considered this line of work.

Anyway here are some of the pictures we took at Fran's farewell!! i thought these 2 were particularly nice with our leading ladies (and lady).

there goes my partner in all things fun and weird and hopelessly intellectual beyond our(my) years!

im gonna miss the time we took a picture on the street (i can't find it and its killing me!), and when we made ourselves look like idiots on the ice skating rink, and when we cycled along the horribly boring track on Sentosa, or laughing out loud and giving pointless commentary in the middle of movies, or when we watched daphne or geraldine at their respective performances, and when we walked around NUS and NUH at 2am in the morning, and most of all our late night phone conversations about absolutely anything and everything.

remember to write back often, francine! i miss you already! =)

i can't believe fran's leaving so soon. far from blogging about otherwise mundane things like medicamp, school etc, i've always tried dwelling on things you can't really touch or see or hear, like feelings. i'm preparing to say goodbye to one of my greatest friends (and i've only known her 1.8 years now), and i can't help but miss her already. not in a boy miss girl kinda way, but in a boy miss best girl (space) friend way.

i just got her present ready, though its not quite complete yet. (been putting my surgical hands to good use now, haha!) its amazing what one's mind seems to go through as you perform very surgery-like procedures. i remember when i went for my first hospital attachment, my dad got me posted to the OPERATING THEATRE where i witnessed some of the most gruesome, gut-wrenching scenes in my life. at that time i wondered how doctors did it, how they treated their patients like a slab of tofu and made quick work out of their innards and entrails, but having done what i did today with the puppet, im proud to say i may yet find surgery enjoyable in the near future!!

well that was just a quick update. i'll write again when fran goes.

Three times the memories.

Beginning today I will no longer worry about yesterday. It is in the past and the past will never change. Only I can change by choosing to do so.

Beginning today I will no longer worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will always be there, waiting for me to make the most of it. But I cannot make the most of tomorrow without first making the most of today.

Beginning today I will look in the mirror and I will see a person worthy
of my respect and admiration. This capable person looking back at me is
someone I enjoy spending time with and someone I would like to get to know better.

Beginning today I will cherish each moment of my life. I value the gift bestowed upon me in this world and I will unselfishly share this gift with others.

Beginning today I will take a moment to step off the beaten path and to
revel in the mysteries I encounter. I will face challenges with courage
and determination. I will overcome what barriers there may be which hinder
my quest for growth and self- improvement.

Beginning today I will take life one day at a time, one step at a time.
Discouragement will not be allowed to taint my positive self-image, my desire to succeed or my capacity to love.

Beginning today I walk with renewed faith in human kindness. Regardless
of what has gone before. I believe there is hope for a brighter and better future.

Beginning today I will open my mind and my heart. I will welcome new experiences. I will meet new people. I will not expect perfection from myself nor anyone else: perfection does not exist in an imperfect world. But I will applaud the attempt to overcome human foibles.

Beginning today I am responsible for my own happiness and I will do things that make me happy... admire the beautiful wonders of nature, listen to my favourite music, pet a kitten or a puppy, soak in a bubble bath...
Pleasure
can be found in the most simple of gestures.

Beginning today I will learn something new; I will try something different; I will savour all the various flavours life has to offer. I will change what I can and the rest I will let go. I will strive to become the best me I can
possibly be.
